This summer around August or September I noticed about 1500 ladybugs crawling on the back (west) side of my house. They were everywhere, crawling around windows, up the walls, etc. I was a bit taken aback, but I figured at the time that it may simply have been a cyclical event akin to locusts and other insects.
However, I am now seeing ladybugs in my house in
December. I don't see many mind you, but from time to time I will go to my
bathroom to brush my teeth and encounter one or two ladybugs crawling around the
wash basin.
What is going on? Am I just a lady killer (hahah doh!)? Is this cyclical? Are
ladybugs secret members of the termite family set on the destruction of my home?
TO give you some further info my house is located in Southern Connecticut
(Fairfield County) and is very old (1840s). The house was recently painted
earlier in the summer (which I suspect is the culprit, driving the bugs out of
any nests they may have had). Additionally, one side of the house
(the north side fac9ing away from the sun) was painted for the first time in
almost 12 years (maybe even 20). A great deal of work was also done in terms of
the prep on the north side that may have bothered them. I suspect they were
under the shingles on the north side and were driven out, but
I can't be sure.
Basically, I know next to nothing about the domestic and nesting habits of
ladybugs and just want to make sure it isn't time to perform a full-scale
assault.
Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Der Prozeb
