This incredible Image is a Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of an ant's face! This particular ant, Quadristruma emmae (really, that's its name!), has very little eyes and all sorts of weird sensory structures all over its face. The fan-like things probably feel air movement and other vibrations and the holes pick up chemicals floating in the air - like smelling! An animal like this lives in an entirely different world than we do. If that world is your kitchen, it helps to understand how they see it to better control them.
