
This is a Bee-Hunter Robberfly (prob. Laphria spp., Ohio 1986) that mimics a Bumblebee so predators will leave it alone. In fact, it has no stinger or dangerous defenses. It gets its name because it often perches above bee nests and snatches the workers out of the air as they leave the nest!
