BUGWORLD is a series of 13 episodes which explores the many things Arthropods can teach us about our world. BUGWORLD covers basic "BUG-stuff" and many globally important concepts for anyone interested in science and the way life works. The topics covered in BUGWORLD range from the ways cockroach guts are like ours to the value of color to a butterfly or clothing designer! Appropriate for students (and teachers) to watch with pencil and paper ready, these videos bring the bug world into clear focus for everyone in a humorous, unexpected and memorable way. The follow-up activities suggested throughout are fun and easy to do (sometimes with the help of grownups) and review important concepts to reinforce the lessons presented. Living Arthropods (and other animals, too) appear throughout and help illustrate an unique look at the way the world works. The films are structured around themes and the concepts we explore are global - they could be illustrated in many ways but bugs make them memorable. For example, water striders (one of the "true bugs") are able to live on the surface of ponds due to the amazing physical properties of water. The marvel of surface tension is explored in this segment. (You know water molecules look almost like Mickey Mouse hats?!) But it is explored with respect to the water striders - what happens when soap suds from detergents in the water break up the surface tension? You can imagine it's not good for the bugs! A list of topics covered in each video will be printed on the cover. "Physics of water" is in the topics list for this episode. Following the counter key on the jacket, you can advance directly to a topic and add a memorable lesson to many parts of a school curriculum or reference things seen on a family outing. BUGWORLD is the creative idea of Mark Berman and Octavio Warnock-Graham. Berman is an entomologist with a degree from the University of Hawaii and teaching certification from The Ohio State University. He is also the show host. Currently he is touring schools throughout the Midwest and the East Coast with a self created series called, The Joy of BUGS! Warnock-Graham is an independent producer and videographer out of New York City. He has worked with major television studios such as MTV and VH-1. He studies at the Film and Video Arts School and is currently working on two documentary projects. UPDATE: A 2:45 minute trailer for BUGWORLD has been completed - and we love it!
