The Lives of Ohio BUGS: Spring! Spring! YAY! It's Spring!

    - Where do bugs come from in the spring?
    - What is the best color for a bug's body for it to get an early
      start on cool spring mornings?
    - Where do trees get the energy to make flowers and leaves
if they need leaves to get energy and they don't have
      leaves all winter long?

Spring is a very exciting time in the bug world in Ohio! And it smells great! Lots of babies taking their first steps and starting a life full of hoping not to get eaten. There is a big advantage to getting out early - every Ohio bug has a spring strategy.

Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all.
Stanley Horowitz

Youth is like spring, an over praised season more remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes.  Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.
Samuel Butler

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.
John Lubbock

The color of springtime is in the flowers, the color of winter is in the imagination.
Ward Elliot Hour
